Butterfinger Popcorn

  • This stuff is just like a woman. Dramatic and a hot mess!

    I was so super excited to make it because who doesn’t love buttery, salty popcorn or “crispety, crunchety, peanut buttery Butterfingers?” I do! The popcorn and candy combination that we love so much has been around since before this cowgirl was born. So I thought, “Why not? I’ll just melt em’ together for a spectacular treat!”

    Butterfinger Popcorn
    And believe me, it was good! But why did I think that the inside of a Butterfinger would melt? Because it doesn’t!
    I kept looking in the oven, waiting for the lovely orange crispety part to melt…..waiting. PATIENTLY!
    Grrrrrr….moving on.
    I was discouraged with my decision to take this snack to a tailgate, when all of a sudden! The orange melted candy dics saved the day!
    It stuck to the Butterfinger pieces and grabbed a hold of the popcorn and gave them both a squeeze! Binding them together in the perfect marriage of salty and sweet! All that freaking out for nothing. :) Wooops!

    Butterfinger Popcorn
          makes about 30 cups
          adapted from cookiesandcups
    30 C popped, light butter popcorn (3 bags of Orville Redenbacher’s)
    1/2 C light brown sugar
    1/4 C light corn syrup
    2 T butter
    1/4 tsp baking soda
    6 regular Butterfinger candy bars
    1 C Wilton’s orange candy melts

    Preheat oven to 200 degrees. After you pop the popcorn, try to take out as many of the unpopped kernels as you can. Set the popcorn aside.

    In a small pot, melt butter, brown sugar, and syrup together. Bring to a bubble, then take off the heat and add baking soda.

    Pour caramel over popcorn and stir. Try to coat the popcorn evenly.

    Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Spread popcorn over two baking sheets. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring at 15 minutes.

    While the popcorn is in the oven, get Butterfingers ready.
    First we tried it my way. {Roughly chopping it into chunks}

    Then we tried hubby’s way. {Smashin’ the mess out of it!}

    Both methods work great. Butterfingers are equally yummy chopped or smashed.
    After 30 minutes, take popcorn out and sprinkle with Butterfinger pieces. Put back in the oven for about 10 minutes, until the chocolate has slightly melted.

    While that’s going on, melt the candy discs in the microwave or on the stove top. Be careful not to burn them. Once the Butterfingers are slightly melted, take the pans out of the oven and drizzle the orange melty goodness over the popcorn.

    Let it cool and ta da! Butterfinger Popcorn!

    Now try and convince me THAT isn’t the perfect Halloween treat! Delicious and orange. With butter and chocolate.

    And you OSU fans? It’s the perfect orange tailgate snack. It doesn’t have to be kept warm and it’s great in a huge bowl or little individual bags.

    Happy snacking!

        Sassy, the orange candy melts are just orange color. They taste like the regular white chocolate candy melts.
